A DryerFlex 4-ply flexible dryer vent transition hose connects the dryer to the wall or main duct run. DryerFlex combines semi-rigid aluminum construction with flex-hose ease of use. It prevents the kinks and bends that restrict airflow and trap lint.
Standard flex hose is wire bound and easily kinked. Kinks collapse the duct, restrict airflow, and trap lint inside where it packs and becomes a fire hazard. Kinked ducts also force the dryer to run longer and hotter. DryerFlex resists kinking while remaining flexible and easy to install.

Which Dryer Transition Duct Should You Use?
The transition duct is the short connector between the back of your dryer and the wall vent. It is one of the most important parts of the whole setup and one of the most ignored. The wrong hose here leads to lint buildup, long dry times, fire hazards and code violations.
DryerFlex is our top recommendation for most homes. It is made from multiple layers of tightly wound aluminum over steel wire, so it bends like a hose but resists crushing like rigid metal. The smooth interior gives maximum airflow and minimal lint buildup, it is UL 2158A listed and code compliant, and it is easier to install in tight spaces. It is what we use when rigid metal is not practical behind the dryer.
Rigid metal duct, in aluminum or galvanized steel, is the gold standard when space allows. It is completely non-combustible, the interior is perfectly smooth, and it will not crush or tear. The only downside is that it does not flex, so it may need elbows, and in a tight laundry room it can make the back of the dryer harder to reach after installation.
Semi-rigid aluminum duct is fire resistant and code compliant, but it is still prone to crimping, its interior collects more lint over time, and it can degrade if it is bent repeatedly or exposed to moisture. It is a compromise between flexibility and safety, and DryerFlex outperforms it in tight spaces.
What to avoid
Dryer Hoses You Should Replace
Two kinds of transition hose should come out of any laundry room. White or clear vinyl hose is highly flammable, crushes easily, traps lint, and is not legal for dryer venting in most places. Flexible foil duct is only allowed on short runs, rips easily, crushes under pressure, and its ribbed surface traps lint. It is often the weakest link in an otherwise good dryer setup.
Replace your transition duct if any of these are true:
- It is made of foil or plastic
- It is damaged, crushed, or kinked
- Your laundry comes out hot, dry times are slow, or you notice a burning smell
- It has not been inspected in over a year

Why the Hose Behind the Dryer Matters
The transition point is where lint most often gets trapped. On every cleaning we pull the dryer forward, disconnect the transition hose and clear it, before we brush and vacuum the rest of the run. A kinked or crushed hose at that spot undoes the rest of the work, because the dryer is still pushing air through a pinched connection.
