The Difference
Who We Work With
The exterior vent hood is blocked by a birds nest, squirrel nest, or other debris lodged inside the termination that requires using more involved techniques to dislodge and clean properly.
That is why it is priced on its own. Every other part of a cleaning is flat rate: the length and route of the vent do not change what you pay, and neither does how clogged the line is. A nest is the exception, and it is the only one.
We clear lint from the dryer connection all the way out to the exterior cap, not just the parts you can see. Airflow is checked before and after, and we clear the outside cap and check it for bird nests and damage, flagging anything that needs repair.
Once the line is clear, the fix that keeps it clear is the cap. We repair or replace worn exterior vent caps, add proper damper flaps, and screen out birds and rodents.

A real job, in Rob's words
What we found: “In one recent Morristown job, our inspection found the vent clogged with a bird’s nest so large it nearly spanned the entire length of the duct”.
What it was doing: The nest was “forcing the dryer to overheat on every cycle”.

FAQs

It can be. A nest blocks the exhaust, so lint and hot air stay in the line, and the U.S. Fire Administration lists failure to clean as the leading cause of home dryer fires. If you hear birds in the vent, book a removal.
Through the cap. We repair or replace worn exterior vent caps, add proper damper flaps, and screen out birds and rodents.
A nest or packed debris can lodge inside the exterior termination, and getting it out can mean opening or partly taking apart the hood. The nest has to come out before the line can be cleaned. We show you what we found and quote it before we touch it. Afterwards we check the exterior cap and can repair a worn hood or add the proper damper and screen.
Book a bird nest removal. We find the nest with a camera, show you what is in the line and quote the removal before we touch it. It is $100 on top of your cleaning package. Federal law (the Migratory Bird Treaty Act) requires authorization from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to destroy a nest that holds viable eggs or nestlings, while European starlings and house sparrows, two common vent nesters, are not protected by the Act.
