Mount Arlington is a borough of 5,909 people as of the 2020 census, on the southeast shore of Lake Hopatcong, the largest lake in New Jersey. It was incorporated from part of Roxbury on November 3, 1890, and is named for Henry Bennet, the 1st Earl of Arlington.
Before the world wars it was a summer resort. Visitors came by train to Landing Station and crossed the lake by water taxi to large hotels, and the Bertrand Island amusement park, with its carousel and roller coaster, ran until 1983. The borough is also home to the Lake Hopatcong Yacht Club.

After it became a borough, Mount Arlington took in more land from Roxbury in 1891, 1893 and 1894. It covers 2.79 square miles, and water makes up 23.30% of that area. In March 2014 residents petitioned the state Department of Community Affairs to study merging Mount Arlington with Roxbury, and a study commission with five members and two alternates from each town was formed in March 2015; a merger would have needed approval from voters in both places. The borough's two public schools, Edith M. Decker School and Mount Arlington Public School, both sit on the eastern bank of Lake Hopatcong, and high school students attend Roxbury High School. Interstate 80 runs for nearly 1.4 miles through the borough, with Exit 30 inside its limits.
