Local Conditions

Common Dryer Vent Cleaning Challenges in Butler, NJ

The NOAA weather station at Oak Ridge Reservoir averages 6.1 days a year with snowfall of 1.0 inch or more, per its 1991-2020 normals. After days like that, NFPA says to check that the outdoor dryer vent flap is not covered by snow, and we verify airflow at the vent termination with the dryer running.

  • Clothes take longer to dry
  • The dryer or laundry room feels hot
  • A burning or musty odor
  • Weak airflow outside
  • Lint around the exterior vent

If a normal load now needs more than one cycle, schedule a vent check instead of waiting for the problem to get worse.

Butler is a borough of 8,047 people as of the 2020 census. The area was first called West Bloomingdale, and water power along the Pequannock River brought the Pequannock Valley Paper Company in 1857 and the Newbrough Hard Rubber Company in 1868. The New Jersey Midland Railroad reached the town from Paterson in 1871.

The community took the name Butler in 1881, after Richard Butler, owner of the Hard Rubber Company. The old railroad station has housed the Borough Museum since 1977, and Butler was incorporated from part of Pequannock Township on March 13, 1901.
