In Rockaway Borough, the First Presbyterian Church was founded in 1758, many Revolutionary War veterans are buried in its cemetery, and the present brick church dates to 1832. The borough covers 2.12 square miles, is home to Morris Hills High School, and lent its Main Street and train tracks to the 2003 film The Station Agent. Rockaway Township is much larger and contains most of Picatinny Arsenal, a U.S. Army site that began in 1880 as a powder depot and now covers about 6,500 acres with 5,000 employees. The township also has the Rockaway Townsquare mall, the 1768 Ford-Faesch Manor House and the Civil War era Split Rock Furnace. Even so, the township has no ZIP code of its own and is served by eight different ones.
